Earlier there were report that Microsoft will soon ditch Nokia branding from all devices and rebrand it with a new name. Today Microsoft used it conversation blog to announce that it will soon rename Nokia as Microsoft Lumia. Upcoming Lumia devices will feature Microsoft branding both at back and at front.
Microsoft is already moving Nokia’s old websites and social media websites to new Microsoft Mobile page. As per agreement Microsoft has 18 months to transition from the Nokia brand for its smartphone business, however Nokia brand will not be completely scratch out as Microsoft has 10-year license to use the Nokia brand on basic phones.
Senior Vice President of Marketing for Phones at Microsoft, Tuula Rytilä said
“Our global and local websites are going through a transition as we speak and in the coming days our social channels will get a new name too – they will be called Microsoft Lumia. This work continues across our devices, packaging and retail, to name a few. It’s all going as planned and we’re excited that our integration in to Microsoft continues to be on track”
