In recent time we had seen almost all Chinese smartphone makers are heading toward Indian smartphone market. India has a very large smartphone market and all Chinese smartphone makers wants to get most of it. Meizu, a popular name in China has entered Indian market few months back by announcing couple of device but recently company decided to host a media event to showcase their devices.
Recently we attended the media launch event of Meizu MX5, and we got sometime to play with the device, and after playing for about an hour with it, here is our first impression with the device.
Build And Design Of Meizu MX5:-
When it comes to build and design, we must say this is the main USP of of this device, company has very nicely build this device, it comes with all metal unibody design which looks very well and it also feels very good in hand.
One this which we liked here most is that despite of having metal body it feels very light in hand and its quite slim as well. There are curved edges over the corner of device which makes it easy to hold and provide better grip to it. However like most of the metal body devices this one too feels slippery in hand.
When it comes to connectivity and ports then on right side you you have your Power/Sleep button followed by your volume rockers, both are metal button and will provide good feedback to the user.
At bottom you will find your Micro USB port for charging and data transfer followed by speaker grill and primary microphone.
On left you will find your SIM Tray, it accept only one SIM and there is no Micro Card slot as well on this device.
At top you have your 3.5mm Audio jack for headphone and secondary mic for noise cancellation.
At back you will find a 20.7MP camera along with dual tone LED flash for natural colors in low light, at bottom you have Meizu branding.
The front side of the device is occupied by 5.5 inch display screen, above it you have your 5MP front facing camera and some sensors. Just below your screen you have multi functional home key, yes multi functional, there are no back or menu bottom which you usually find on any Android smartphone, here this Home button is the only thing and it work very fine.
If you single tap on it then you will be taken a screen back, means its working as back button, double taping means you will be taken to dashboard, and if you long press it then it will take you to home screen.
And all top of it, your Home button also comes wit finger print sensor integrated into it, which can be used to unlock the device and can also protect your important files.
Hardware And Specs Of Meizu MX5 :-
If we talk about under the hood features of Meizu then it is powered by an 64-bit 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T octa-core processor along with PowerVR G5200 GPU along with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which cannot be expandable. For connectivity it has got WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, and Micro USB.
Software Of Meizu MX5 :-
Just like other Chinese smartphone companies, Meizu too have their own skin which runs on top of Android 5 Lollipop. Meizu has heavily customized this skin to which company called as FlymeOS.
In our limited time we found that UI is quite colorful and responsive, by default there are five homescreen which you can always add more, the device which we used has names homescreen as A,B,C,and D, we tried to find out to change it but we couldn’t. Just like most of the Chinese ROM, here also you wont find any app drawer and all apps and icons are placed on dashboard.
This device also comes preloaded with lots of app like Facebook, Snapchat, Gaana, Instagra and much more, best part is that you can uninstall them.
Display Of Meizu MX5 :-
Meizu MX5 comes with 5.5 inch full HD display which provides great viewing angles, though we didnt get chance to test it under sunlight, but under artificial light it looks good, colors also looks very well and color saturation was also very good on the screen. Display is very well responsive and you can easily navigate through it.
Camera Of Meizu MX5 :-
Meizu MX5 features an 20.7-megapixel snapper at the back with laser auto focus which lets it focus on any object in just 0.48 seconds, and it can also let you record 4K video, at front you will find an 5-megapixel snapper.
The UI of camera app is simple, Meizu has customized camera UI as well but here they kept it simple at the same time.
We tested camera in our limited time and images clicked out of this camera crisp and clear, images contains lots of details and color reproduction was also very good.
Performance Of Meizu MX5 :-
In our limited time we found performance of Meizu MX5 to be very satisfactory, 64-bit 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T octa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM doing its job very well, however we would like to reserve our final verdict until we get our review unit.
Final verdict on Meizu MX5 :-
On paper Meizu MX5 looks good, its has good processor, packs with good GPU and RAM, has latest OS but final thing can be said only when we test it under different circumstances. However when it comes to build quality, Meizu MX5 has nice design language and build quality.
