If I ask you, What is the ideal size of a smartphone? Answers may vary from person to person, but most of you will stick under 5.5 inches, yes actually 5.5 inch should be the maximum screen size of a smartphone, beyond that is not easy to handle, and even it might not fit in your pocket as well. And if you have a 6.8-inch device then you might say it is not a smartphone anymore, it is a tablet with calling feature.
Last year when Asus has introduced its Zenfone 3 series of smartphone, company has also introduced a massive smartphone, the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra.
Build And Design Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
When you came to know about a massive device, then your first question must be, whether it is easy to carry and comfortable to use, well answer to both of these questions is NO !!.
Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra dimensions of 186.4×93.9×6.8mm and a weight of 233g, which makes it super awkward to hold, we used this device for a month and every time we have to carry it in backpack as it does not fit in my jeans, and not even my jacket and as I am carrying it in my bag, most of the time I miss my calls and texts as well.
Surely you won’t be able to use this device with your one hand, you need two hands, and sometimes they are not enough as well, you need to be extra careful while using this device as it might slip out of your hand.
When it comes to connectivity and ports, then on the right side you have two SIM tray, below one will be your primary SIM tray, while the upper one will act as your hybrid SIM tray in which either you can insert the second SIM or Micro SD for memory expansion. And there is a power and sleep button as well which is easy to reach despite having such a big form factor.
At bottom, you will find a speaker grill, USB Type-C which supports fast charging, and primary microphone as well.
At the top, you will find a 3.5 mm audio jack for your headphones, and there is a secondary mic for noise cancellation too.
At front you will find a 6.8 inch Full HD IPS display screen, its massive, focus on word MASSIVE here, below that, you have one physical home button which also acts as your fingerprint scanner, and it works almost everytime, and it is fast as well.
There are two touch capacitive buttons on each side of the home button; they do support backlight which helps you to find them in dark conditions. Just above your display, you will find your 8MP front facing camera and some sensors placed there.
At the back, you have your 23MP rear snapper along with laser auto-focus and dual LED flash.
In terms of build, this Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra can give a tough competition to any of today’s flagship smartphone, front and back is completely flat, sides of this devices has curves which make your grip better, but still your need two hands for it.
Metal frame all across its body gives a premium look to the device and feel great in hand as well.
Hardware And Specs Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
When it comes to under the hood features, Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC, which has four ARM Cortex A53 cores and four A72 cores, all running at 1.8GHz, along with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU.
This device comes with 64GB of internal storage, and out of which you will get around 53GB of storage on your first boot. You can expand its memory via a hybrid slot.
Software Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
There is nothing new here, if you have used or saw any of Asus’s device in past, then it is same like that, there are lots of pre-installed apps, some of them can be uninstalled or disabled. It runs on Android 6.0, yes no Nougat as of now and it also does not support VoLTE as of now, the company is planning to roll out an update for the same.
As said earlier, if you have used any of Asus device in the past then you won’t find much difference here. Overall UI is smooth, multi-tasking was easy, and we never faced any issue with UI.
Display Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
As told earlier, Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra comes with 6.8 inch IPS display screen, and this is one the best part of this device, the screen is colorful, has nice viewing angles and bright as well, even in direct sunlight, you will be able to view it.
If you love to watch movies on the go or play games on your device, then you will surely love this device. The screen is smooth, and again yes you need both hands to reach corners of this screen, but overall very good display.
Camera Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
I would say camera of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra is the thing which I loved most here; you have a 23-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture lens here, if we talk about app, then it is the same ZenUI Camera which you will find in any other Asus device.
But real difference you will see when you take images, first of all, it is not easy to make a grip on this device while taking images, but rest is where it matches Asus claim, laser out-focus works great, macro turns to be good with the nice amount of details.
Images taken in low light were impressive as well with good amount of details. You can capture FHD videos, FHD at 60fps and 4K videos as well.
Here are some camera samples for you:-
Battery Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
The battery of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra is another strong segment, I was able to make more than two days on a single charge with heavy usage, I have browsed the web, used WiFi, watched movies and much more, but still it survived two days.
Performance Of Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
If you keep its screen size at the side, then the only issue which we have faced is the pre-install apps on it, other than this we have very limited complaints with Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra, SoC might not be the fastest which you can find at this price tag, but it gets its job done.
Audio from the device is decent enough to enjoy movies in a small group, but if you are a die-hard music lover, then you also gets Asus ZenEar (Review) headphone bundled in the box which takes your music experience to next level.
Final Verdict On Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra:-
While using this device, I totally enjoyed it, yes most of the time, it felt awkward to take calls on such a big device, but most of the time I was playing games on this device like Nova 5, NFS Most Wanted, Dead Trigger 3 and so on, and I totally enjoyed it.
The camera of this device is again something which I loved here, images taken with it are full of details and colors looks nice on them. It has the premium build which does look nice here, and yes the battery is super strong here.
But, But and But, despite all such good points here, the price of this device which seems to kill everything, at this price tag it will compete with some of the flagship devices like Samsung Galaxy S7, iPhone 7 and so on.
If you have money and you want a solid tablet which also has some calling features then you consider this device
