As expected, finally along with its flagship smartphone Galaxy S7, Samsung has also announced the Galaxy S7 Edge at its Galaxy Unpacked event at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2016 aka MWC in Barcelona, most of the specs and details are in line of what we had seen in earlier leaks. Company has said they will launch this device sometime in March in many countries with pre-order will kick off in next few days at selected countries. When it comes to design, Samsung has kept the design of last year launched Galaxy S7 Edge but this year smartphone is more curvier.
Most of the features and specs are similar to Galaxy S7, like camera bump is not as noticeble as before, home button at the front is same with finger print scanner, and there is heart rate sensor along with camera at rear.
The talking point of this device is its display, last year’s Galaxy S6 Edge variant showed a single line of notifications icons on its edge sides, but this year company has introduced a new UI mode, called Edge Single Plus which nother row of notifications at the edges of the display.
Samsung Galaxy S6 flaunts a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution, and depending upon the market, you will either get Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset or Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset, both processors will be paired with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, it will be available in 32GB or 64GB variant, and after getting critized last year, this year company has introduced MicroSD card slot, now Samsung Galaxy S7 will have hybrid SIM tray, which means you can either insert two SIMs or one SIM and a Micro SD card.
When it comes to photographic front, Samsung Galaxy S7 will have 12MP rear snapper, most of you might think its down from 16MP which we had seen on Galaxy S6, but company has made some changes under the hood, like it has f/1.7 aperture and 1.4um pixel sensor which ensure you will get good images in low lights, there is optical image stabilization (OIS) and 100 percent PDAF. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel f/1.7 selfie camera.
For connectivity, it has got dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and micro-USB port. It houses 3,000mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging support, it has also got IP68 certification, which makes it resistant to water and dust.
When it comes to software scenerio, Samsung Galaxy S7 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under companies own TouchWiz UI, it features an Always On display which is like LG G5 which shows your notification on your lock screen without having to wake up the device.
