If you ever looked for a on screen recording software then you must came across of TechSmith Camtasia software, if the one of its best in its class, but being best if not all, its expensive too and not everyone can afford it.
If you record your screen very rarely then getting this software if not recommended. If you want to get almost similar of TechSmith Camtasia then here are few alternatives :-
CamStudio :-
CamStudio is one of the most widely used free app which allows you to record your desktop screen and save video in AVI format. It can also let you record your audio while recording video. CamStudio can also convert videos for online streaming videos. It has been recently updated top fix bugs.
Jing :-
if you use to record small videos then Jing could be the best software for you, it is from the same developer, TechSmith and its available for Windows and Mac.
The only limitation in this software is that it allows you to record videos up to 5 minutes, if you need to record videos beyond 5 minutes then you have to upgrade to pro. It can record videos same time and allows you to customize the area it has captured.
Expression Encoder :-
Expression Encoder is the freeware app from Microsoft for Windows, it allows you to record your screen activities, webcam videos and audio at the same time, you can have the option to record video first and then add audio via audio overlay option.
This allows you to record videos up to 10 minutes, for longer videos you have to upgrade to pro version.
Screencast-O-Matic:-
If you are looking for a online tool which lets you record screen then Screencast-O-Matic is the one for you, Screencast-O-Matic is also available as standalone software for both Windows and MAC.
This tool allows you to record videos for 15 minutes only for longer videos you have to upgrade to pro version. Another drawback which I felt is that it has some pre-defined areas and you have to select the one from them.
EzVid :-
EzVid is another software for Windows users which lets you record your screen activity and supports wide range of formats. It captures videos in clips and then add them to your timeline from where you can edit them without the need of any other software. You can also upload video to YouTube directly.
So what you think, is $249 Camtasia can be replaced with above mentioned apps or is there any other apps which you use to record your screen???
