Few hours ago Google I/O kicked off and at Google I/O Sundar Pichai, Senior VP Google has announced a new program, Android One which will help OEM to build affordable Android smartphone for emerging markets like Asia. Google has announced that this Android One program will starts from India and they had selected 3 Indian vendors as its partners which are Micromax, Karbonn and Spice.
One of the first smartphone to be launched under this program will be from Micromax which will have 4.5-inch display, dual-SIM card slot, microSD card slot, FM Radio and it will be priced under $100. On the software front, and if we talk about software then it will run on stock version of Android, manufacturer will also be able to load some local apps as per audience.
Google will also be partnering with network operators across India so that they can provide affordable plans to targeted people, however Google hasn’t announced any operator name.
